Bear Grylls – Man vs Wild

3 11 2009

We have been talking about ‘What would you do?’ scenarios, after Miss Myers saw this documentary about a man called Bear Grylls (strange name, we know) who gets dropped into remote areas of the world with only the clothes on his back and a few other items, and shows his audience how to survive.

We watched a video from the Discovery Channel website, showing an overview of the documentary of his Iceland adventure. You can see it here.

We brainstormed some interesting questions for Bear:

- What is it like going to place where people don’t survive? (Michael)
- Don’t you get bored? (Taya)
- Is it scary being by yourself? (Nick)
- How does it feel to know that you might not survive? (Jen)
- What would you do if a bear attacked you, Bear? (Sarah)
- What’s it like to be you fighting the wild? (Zane)
- Have you ever thought that you might die? (Byron)
- What’s it like to wrap yourself in a camel? (Lachlan)
- What are your main tools to survive? (Ava)

Miss Myers, The class had some questions about your blog, so we are visiting your blog right now. We noticed you had this post on Man Vs. Wild. Here in America, Bear has been on cable television for several years. We have a Discovery Channel on TV. The kids wanted to know if you have this available in Melbourne?
I allowed the class to come up with some questions for you and your class. I hope you have time to respond, but please don not feel that you must respond to all of them right away.
What age are your students?
Do any of your students play bseball?
How many students do you have?
What are you currently studying in Math?
Here in America, we do not have Kangaroos, and we are aware that they live in your area. Do you see them often. Are they pets? Where do you see them?
What other animals are there in Melbourne?
Do you have a class pet?
How is the weather there?
Does it snow in Melbourne?
What time does your school begin and end?
What are some projects you are working on?
What does senior seven mean?

The class came up with these question and would love to hear back from you. Feel free to send us some questions and we would be glad to respond. HAve a great day. – Mr. Fletcher and class.

Oh wow, S7, I too have seen this crazy guy in action on TV. Bear Grylls is wild alright!! I have to admit sometimes I have to look away as I am a vegetarian and sometimes it’s a but yucky for me, but it’s so interesting to watch!
